If you’re a fan of lychee, you’ll love longan. These fruits are similar to lychee and unmistakeable as a unique fruit.
They’ve got smooth papery skin (reminds me of a brown paper bag), translucent flesh and have a soft honeyed mineral flavor and one of my favorite fragrances. The seed inside is hard and glossy brown. I don’t think you can eat that part…
They’re kind of awesome in martinis or on their own! I hope you get to try some!
This is Christie, signing off!
Delicious! Wish good ones were easy to find in Chicago.
They’re JUST coming into season. We need MOAR!!!
They are good – had them for the first time a week ago. My lab mate told me the trick to eat them quickly – you squeeze them and the fruit pops right out! Beats peeling it by a lot!!! Also my new thing is trying wierd fruits and checking pubmeb for health benefits and these are anti-cancer if i remember
I shot one across the room and didn’t find it for a week so I went back to peeling them. What I mean is, you’re brave.
That is why I do this in front of a padded wall 🙂
Great blog btw – keep writing and I’ll keep reading!
THANK YOU! That’s a huge compliment. (I want a padded wall…)
Never heard of these before but I think it’s awesome that such a nubby-looking fruit opens up to be an opalesque lavender.
Nature is one of my favorite artists. It’s terribly clever. 🙂
